Chic, diverse, seasonal—these are just some of the words used to describe the recently renewed restaurant located at 62 Beekman Street on the West Side of Saratoga Springs, New York.
In late 2016, owner Dominick De Vietro shifted ownership over to his son, Darren, and took over down the block at the recently opened Beekman Street Café. Though the old restaurant, 62 Beekman, had become a local favorite, Darren decided to update the place with some revamps to both the interior and the menu.

Though the old restaurant, 62 Beekman, had become a local favorite, Darren decided to update the place with some revamps to both the interior and the menu.
The interior of the restaurant exudes a minimalist aura mixed with some “chic” elements—like the blue back-lit bar at the end of the space. The walls are painted white, and the tables, bar stools, napkins, and chairs are dark brown but appear black later on in the evening. This update represented a change from the restaurant that occupied the space before—an Italian eatery with a more at-home vibe. The restaurant has been updated to emulate a New York City gastro pub but has kept a lot of its Italian Flair. Newer menu items include a “tapas” section with Thai spring rolls and a “NYC soft pretzel”, but some old favorites, such as the fried ravioli and Tuscan chicken, remained on the menu. Few items on the menu are over 20$ and the New York Style Pizza section offers great selections for people to tear and share. The lunch and dinner options are the same but there is a happy hour from four to seven during which some drinks are less expensive than others.
Despite the updated look and elevated menu items, regular customers have not stopped coming back. Though there has been a change in ownership, the Beekman Bar + Eatery has still kept many of its regulars—many of whom come to get a drink at the bar after a day at work. Regulars, some of whom eventually recognized me after I began my project, usually sat at the bar and formed a rapport with Christine, the co-owner and manager. The bar is a place where customers conjugate, laugh, and have a bite to eat.
Though this local favorite newly experienced a fresh renovation, the new customers and regulars are still coming in strong.
